I very much enjoyed the royal wedding performance, just as I usually enjoy many other types of operatic presentation. The colour, sound and splendour...
...of it all relieves the monotony of an otherwise humdrum ethereal existence, trying to save the world from the mess caused by humans, and trying to save humans from the mess they frequently cause to each other's lives.
It is certainly not the fault of the bride or groom if their friends and relatives own large tracts of some of the world's most beautiful, green and pleasant real estate. Many other persons would like to own the land currently owned by others, and this is certainly the case when the views of bigots, baddies and the overly-bossy are given an airing in the media in the name of unbiased reporting.
I believe the prima donna is now resting, and the leading man has returned to his usual role. The understudies for both main parts have been showing some promise, I hear, though with other principal players. I do hope the persons playing stock characters for such performances would, in future, show more sensible forms of originality, however.
Now, it has come to my attention that real estate in many parts of the world can be surprisingly beneficial to some unfortunately surprising misfits. You may have found this out for yourself if you have ever lived next door to an exceedingly unpleasant neighbour. Yet it is important to remember that the world is no safer today, or more pleasant, than it was a week ago.
No matter how serene, sedate and stately one occasion may be, there will be the obscene, the irate and the hateful in the news headlines far more often. The bromide of here comes the bride will never make up for the broomstick of unexpected disenchantment. Weddings and wars often have an equal mix of friends and enemies, as Sultan Abdülmecid I and his father will tell you.
Fairness and impartiality are very important assets during any social occasion, even when wearing a fez. I shall be staying on in Europe while my horses and Queen Charlotte make their way back to Adelaide in a celestial teapot. As usual, I have received a great many invitations and it is important to use my time as wisely as possible in the cause of world peace.
A young housewife in North Wales will probably require my assistance in the coming days, so I shall make my way to Caernarfon Castle in anticipation of that. I am sure she will seek my advice about the world's most notable reformers and fashion designers. Queen Charlotte has made some notes for me to pass on, too.
